COMIFAC Regional Workshop held in Brazzaville, 2 - 4 February 2010

There has been long standing interest in monitoring of Congo Basin Forests, largely driven by research on biodiversity, ecosystems, land use and earth system observations. As a result of the inclusion of REDD (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) in recent climate change treaty negotiations, the monitoring of the forests of the Congo Basin has become the subject of more intense interest.

In response, COMIFAC held a workshop, “Monitoring Carbon Stocks and Fluxes in the Congo Basin”, in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo, 2 – 4 February 2010. This technically focused workshop brought together representatives from the ministries of the countries of Central Africa, national and international researchers and other interested participants to present and discuss the status of monitoring carbon in the Congo Basin.

The final agenda, presentations and the conference report including an executive summary, summary of presentations and the list of participants are now available online.
